Willyum Pendragon Dragon
Noel B. Cogger (2007)

A handsomer dragon you’ve never seen
With scales of red and gold and green
Now Willyum Pendragon Dragon had been
brought up to be heard and not seen.

Long of life and big on strength
Willyum would go to any length
To stop you seeing where he went
                             Invisibility, his sole intent.

The truth was, he was frightened
                             of people that are unenlightened,
And thought that all the world might end
                             If dragons played about untightened.

So, if he sees you coming his way
he’ll roar as loud as he possibly may
So you won’t be able to truthfully say
You saw a great dragon, this wonderful day.

Willyum, of course, would love to be friends
but his Mum and Dad said friendship ends
The moment a human , according to trends,
Sees a great dragon making amends.

For the frights that his forebears, so many,
Gave to the world, just like Henny Penny
Who said the sky was falling, to all and any
Who’d listen in the town of old Tuscanenny.

For Willyum Pendragon Dragon, it’s better to hide
No matter how it bites at your pride
And since this great land’s as long as it’s wide,
Here’s always a space for a dragon to hide!

So when you are walking, keep a look out
for a dragon, for you’ll see by his snout
That dragons, like you, just love to be out
But don’t like to be seen by humans, about.
